We have worked with gynaecologists and obstetricians to make it easier to take prenatal vitamins. Thanks to our research-intensive formulas, we’ve chosen nutrients that ensure maximum absorption.
+mum contains optimal doses of 17 high-quality essential nutrients, including folic acid, iron, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, iodine, biotin and selenium. It provides all the nutrients women need during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, throughout pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Contains no milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, nuts, soya, peanuts, wheat yeast, gluten, maize, sodium, sugar, starch, artificial colourings, preservatives or flavourings.
+mum uses 5-MTHF folate (not synthetic folic acid), which is the most bioavailable folate available for food supplements. This formula ensures maximum absorption.
Higher intakes of 5-MTHF have been correlated with a reduced risk of infertility, shorter time to pregnancy, lower risk of miscarriage and better results from fertility treatments.
While most prenatal vitamin supplements use vitamin D from an animal source (lamb’s wool), +mum has been designed with vitamin D carefully extracted from seaweed to provide an easily absorbable vegan form of vitamin D3. Made with Vita-algae D, a sustainable, vegan form of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3).
According to the WHO, vitamin D can reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, low birth weight and premature birth.
+mum has been designed with ferrous bisglycinate, which has been shown to be easily absorbed, causing fewer side effects and less likely to block the absorption of vitamin E and calcium.
Vitamin B1 helps to produce energy and aids digestion. During pregnancy: it is essential for the development of the baby, particularly its nerves and eyes. If you are breast-feeding: it promotes lactation.
Pregnant and breast-feeding women have an increased need for vitamin B2. A lack of intake during pregnancy increases the risk of malformation in the child.
During pregnancy, the body needs more iodine, in particular to produce thyroid hormones. Most foods contain only small amounts of iodine.
There are three stages of health for which it is important to take a prenatal vitamin: 1. Preconception Some of the most important growth for your baby occurs in the first month of pregnancy, often before you even know you are pregnant. This is why obstetric gynaecologists recommend that you start taking a prenatal vitamin several months before you actively try to conceive. For the entire preconception period, we recommend our +ferti food supplement, which contains all the nutrients you need to prepare for and start pregnancy. 2. Pregnancy Gynaecologists and obstetricians recommend taking a prenatal vitamin every day during pregnancy. In addition to a balanced diet, +mum capsules will provide you and your baby with the nutrients needed for a healthy pregnancy. We therefore advise you to take the +mum food supplement as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed. 3. Breast-feeding and post-partum Your body needs even higher quantities of certain vitamins and nutrients during breast-feeding. That’s why taking +mum can provide you with the folates and vitamin C you need to support your body while it supports your baby. For the entire breastfeeding and post-partum period, we recommend taking our +mum food supplement.
Our +mum food supplement has been carefully developed based on studies that reflect the latest research in prenatal nutrition. The development of the formula was led by our certified gynaecologist and obstetrician, Dr Alexandra Fischer-Stoca.
To guarantee optimum impact, the dosage of each ingredient has been meticulously calculated on the basis of the latest prenatal research data.
Prenatal +mum capsules are formulated with premium quality, highly bioavailable ingredients, including key vitamins and nutrients for maximum efficacy and potency. These include folate 5-MTHF, chelated iron bisglycinate and vegan-sourced Vita algen vitamin D3.
5-MTHF folate is the most abundant folate present in the human body. It is found naturally in food, but is more easily absorbed from food supplements. MTHF folate is the most bioavailable folate found in food supplements. It can be used immediately by your body and does not need to be converted by the enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Up to 25% of the population has a variant of the MTHFR gene (MTHFR 677TT) which significantly impairs its ability to metabolise folic acid. People with this MTHFR variation are also at greater risk of having a child with neural tube defects. The research is still preliminary, but people with the MTHFR 677TT variant are likely to benefit from MTHF folate supplementation rather than folic acid supplementation.
While most prenatals use vitamin D from lamb’s wool, our vitamin D is carefully extracted from seaweed to provide an easily absorbable vegan form of vitamin D3. Vitamin D can reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, low birth weight and premature birth.
When selecting a form of iron for our +mum dietary supplement, we chose ferrous bisglycinate for its high bioavailability and gastrointestinal tolerance. It is a neutral molecule that does not break down in gastric acid – it is delivered intact to the intestine, where it is easily absorbed. Other types of iron have low bioavailability and often produce unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea, constipation and stomach upset. In addition, ferrous bisglycinate is easier to absorb and less likely to block the absorption of other nutrients, such as vitamin E and calcium. Iron is the basic carrier of oxygen in the blood in the form of haemoglobin and the facilitator of oxygen storage in the muscles in the form of myoglobin. Pregnant women need two to three times more iron than non-pregnant women. Iron supplementation during pregnancy protects against pregnancy-induced anaemia, a condition in which you don’t have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen around your body. Some studies have shown that anaemia during pregnancy increases the risk of haemorrhage in the mother and the likelihood of having a low-birth-weight baby. Research on children with iron deficiency anaemia has shown an increased risk of neurocognitive development problems.
Yes, it is generally recommended that women of child-bearing age take a prenatal food supplement if they are not trying to prevent pregnancy, are planning a pregnancy in the near future, are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant or are breast-feeding. This recommendation stems from the fact that up to 45% of pregnancies are unintended. What’s more, many of these pregnancies go undetected for the first four to six weeks, which is a vital period for organ development, especially for the baby’s brain and spinal cord. If you’re not trying to prevent pregnancy, if you’re planning a pregnancy in the near future, if you’re trying to get pregnant, we advise you to take our +ferti food supplement. Once your pregnancy is confirmed, we advise you to take our +mum food supplement.
Every day: take 2 capsules a day, either in a single dose or one in the morning and one in the evening.
It’s up to you! We find it easier to remember when you take them all at once. But some people prefer to take one in the morning and the rest at bedtime.
We do not recommend doubling your vitamin intake, as increasing the quantity of certain vitamins can be dangerous. In general, doctors recommend increasing folate intake in the case of twins. Please consult your doctor for the recommended values. If you have a history of epileptic seizures and are taking anticonvulsants, or if you have had a baby with a neural tube defect, talk to your doctor about increasing your folate intake.
