There are a number of things you can do to give yourself the best chance of having a baby.
Have you decided to have a baby? First of all, congratulations! This is great news and an important step in your life. To give yourself the best chance of getting pregnant, there are a number of things you can do. Of course, these are just a few tips and good practices to make this wonderful project easier: don’t put any pressure on yourself. The key to conceiving a baby is to avoid unnecessary stress and feel good about your body and mind. Follow the guide!
Tip 1: Stop using all your contraception
This goes without saying! If you’ve been taking the contraceptive pill, your body may take a little time to get back on track and return to normal cycles. Don’t worry, this is completely normal.
Conceiving a baby – tip number 2: Start taking vitamins!
Have you ever heard of folic acid? It’s actually vitamin B9 and is highly recommended for conceiving a perfectly formed, healthy baby. You’ll find it naturally in chickpeas, walnuts, chestnuts, strawberries, lychees, spinach, watercress, lamb’s lettuce, etc. The best thing is to start taking it a few months before your baby is conceived and continue throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is recommended by doctors to prevent congenital malformations in babies. Studies show that high levels of folic acid can reduce the risk of baby malformations (‘open back’ or, in medical jargon, ‘spina bifida’) by 50-80%.
At the same time, vitamin B6 is known to facilitate the implantation and development of the fertilised egg in your uterus and also helps to regulate your cycles.
You can also take vitamins B12 and C, which boost your fertility and that of the father-to-be!
So you understand that it’s important to combine several vitamins and nutrients. That’s why we’ve developed an optimal combination of vitamins, minerals and trace elements to make life easier for you and your darling, because sperm is half the equation!
Conceiving a baby – tip number 3: Eat a balanced diet and look after your health
When you want to have a baby, it’s best to avoid dieting or overeating. This can have an effect on your fertility and in particular on the production of necessary hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone. Try to eat a balanced diet with plenty of everything, especially fruit and vegetables, but also fish and white meat.
Even if it goes without saying, you should stop smoking and drinking alcohol. You won’t be able to do this during your pregnancy as it would be toxic for the baby, so you might as well start now.
Conceiving a baby – tip number 4: Get to know your menstrual cycle
Do you know the different phases of your ovarian cycle and, more specifically, your ovulation period? Every month, around 14 days after the onset of your period, you enter the ovulatory phase during which you can conceive a baby.
To detect the few days that are most favourable for conceiving a baby, you can look for several signs, such as the appearance of white discharge a few days before the start of your ovulation, or a slight rise in your temperature (from 0.3°C to 0.6°C) on the day after your ovulation.
But the easiest and most accurate way is to detect the hormone LH, which is released in large quantities when the fertilisable egg is expelled. This hormone can be detected by ovulation tests, which are available in our online shop. They are sold in packs of six, so you can do several tests and detect precisely when your LH peak is.
Conceiving a baby – tip number 5: Make love regularly and especially during your ovulation period
To conceive a baby, you need to have regular intercourse so that your “darling’s” sperm can find its way to your egg and fertilise it. It’s a good idea to “cuddle” every other day, as this allows the sperm to replenish itself so that it is rich in sperm and more active.
Then, as we said above, try to target the period when you ovulate. The best thing is to have sexual intercourse for 3 or 4 days before and 48 hours after ovulation.
Conceiving a baby – tip number 6: Make an appointment with your doctor
For complete peace of mind about your future pregnancy, we recommend that you see your GP for a check-up and to ask any questions you may have about the arrival of your baby.
